A home away from home where this family spend their holidays and quality time away from their home in Southern California. Maui, and specifically Kapalua Bay’s Montage Resort, has been home to many of this family’s special gatherings. The interior design for this 4 bedroom condo was clearly focused on emphasizing what is surely one of the most magnificent views of the Bay. With wide open windows that allow for a true indoor/outdoor living experience throughout the year. The northern tip of Maui provides for many spectacular sunsets with almost always the guarantee of a rainbow or two, and we created the design scheme using those influences. Based on the layering of natural textures and stylistic design elements that one can find on this beachfront escape. Teals combined with sand tones were the primary colors for each living space. Keeping in mind the everyday use of this home, we selected the latest in outdoor textiles for the perfect carefree living while at the beach without sacrificing elegance and luxe details. The custom wood paneled wall acts as a main feature in the Living Room, adding a much needed textural backdrop to the TV wall. Our biggest challenge was designing the Twin/Queen combo custom builtin bunk beds in the kids bedroom allows for maximum sleeping arrangements. We sourced local materials and craftsman to achieve our nautical inspired look. The Master suite provides for a true escape and area for privacy with its own private lanai and Christian Liagre chaise and custom seashell sconces are only a few of the high end details our clients so desired in their private space. A small interior den provides for an additional sleeping area with the pull out sofa, as well as the perfect hideaway for those late movie nights. Our dining room showcases a textured seashell mosaic Maya Romanoff wall while the main feature is surely the custom Dining Table sourced using local natural wood slabs. Albeit challenging sourcing all the items we needed on a small island, working with local workrooms and craftsman was an important part of our design. Collaborating with a California based art consultant—TKO Art, we sourced art and sculptures that would also represent our clients personality and create conversation pieces that would bring the schemes all together. Surely the wooden sharks in the Living Room are a conversation starter! It was a challenge and privilege to be able to design a home on one of the worlds most beautiful islands and for such a wonderful family.
