Color in abundance! That’s what our clients wanted of us for their 6,000 sq ft. home in this beach town in Connecticut. As their primary home, with 4 young children, this couple desired all the highest quality trimmings and details for their home while still remaining playful through the use of color and pattern. The interior design for this 5 bedroom home included a new kitchen design and layers upon layers of collaborative hand painted details, textures and wallpapers in order to achieve this transformation. We lime washed the oak floors and transformed the kitchen into a more functional space with a local manufacturing firm—Kitchens by Deane. Our biggest challenge was the long main hall which every room opened onto—so we added a chevron iridescent hand painted stripe to allow one to “cleanse the palette” in between rooms which used tones of blue as their common thread. Handpainted faux bois ceilings in the living room become patterned grasscloth details in the dining room. Custom panels etched into the venetian plaster walls of the family room, all allow for the blue tone to be individual and yet continuous. Pops of pink begin in the hallway and lead you up the stairs to the new “library” on the 2nd floor landing. Once a pass through now a most beloved space by this family. Custom carpeting and stair runners play a huge part in playing up the pattern combinations from our Missoni rug in the mud room to our animal print in the main entry. Our bedrooms and bathrooms are all unique and have individual touches that provide each family member there one private space, and an additional 2nd floor TV Room now also transformed into a home office for the family and couple to work in silence. Once on the 3rd floor you are greeted by another large family room and play area with handpainted stars and chalkboard walls. Indoor ping pong table allows for fun even on those cold winter days for the kids to play and be free to entertain without any chance of being interrupted by their parents.
